train length and load strain

One can have a train 120 cars long with enough engines to pull it but going uphill slightly with curves makes for danger due to load strain. So one can have two trains of 50 cars each with engines enough, then the load strain going uphill with curves is obviously far less. Why the transportation department does not fathom this is beyond me.
